Once spring arrives and the temperature goes up, having a sprinkler system can keep your lawn green and healthy. If your sprinkler system has been in storage all winter, you may need to make some repairs. Below are two of these repairs so you can ensure your sprinkler system is in good working condition.

Sprinkler Heads Leaking Water

Sprinkler heads are what pop out of the ground when your sprinkler system is running. These heads can be damaged by running over them with a lawnmower, a dog chewing on the heads, or someone driving over them. Another problem that is not easy to detect is the heads leaking water. Even a small leak can lead to a large amount of water loss over time, which increases your monthly water bill. You need to inspect the heads while the system is running and look for water building up around the seal. The seal may be broken if you see water, and the problem will continue to get worse over time.

If you notice a leak, contact a sprinkler system repair service. If your system is old, they may suggest replacing the old sprinkler heads with new ones. If they are not old, the contractor can replace the seal to take care of the problem.

Blocked Sprinkler Heads

If your sprinklers are running and you notice the water is not reaching the area where it is set to, it is probably blocked by an obstruction. This could be things like overgrown bushes, large garden rocks, or trees near the sprinkler system. If you do not mow your grass, it can get tall enough to block one or more sprinkler heads. You will notice the area where the sprinkler head sprays is not getting enough water, such as if the grass is turning brown.

The only thing you can do to take care of this problem is to move the obstruction out of the way so water can go where it is set to go. If you are not able to move the obstruction, you will need to move the sprinkler head instead. This is not something you should do yourself. Instead, contact a sprinkler repair contractor to come to your home and move the sprinkler head for you.

The contractor that comes to your home can give you many tips on keeping your sprinkler system in good condition. They can also teach you how to properly store the system during the winter months.
